RAF Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with France's air force in a combined operation targeting an subterranean weapons facility in Syria employed by the IS group, according to the UK's MoD.
The site, identified by reconnaissance, was assessed as housing weapons and explosive materials, the statement said, and was situated in mountainous terrain just north of Palmyra in central Syria.
"Our fighter planes used Paveway IV guided bombs to strike a several access tunnels providing entry to the facility... preliminary assessments suggest the target was engaged successfully," officials stated.
There was no evidence of any civilian casualties in the strike on Saturday evening and every plane involved made a safe return, the ministry further stated.
The British jets were backed up by a Voyager refuelling tanker.
IS - alternatively referred to as ISIS - imposed extremist governance over large swathes of Syria and Iraq before its territorial defeat in 2019.
"This strike demonstrates our UK leadership, and commitment to operate in unison with our partners, to eradicate any re-emergence of IS and their violent and radical beliefs in the area," Britain's Defence Chief the minister said.
RAF aircraft have conducted patrols over Syrian airspace to "deter any attempted comeback" of the group after its military defeat at the battle of Baghuz in 2019, the ministry said.
"I want to thank all the members of the UK armed forces involved in this strike for their professionalism and their bravery," the Defence Secretary added. "Including them were thousands of British troops stationed over the holidays. This action, to remove dangerous terrorists who pose a risk to our safety, highlights how British military are ready to step up, all year round, ensuring Britain's security at home and strong abroad."
Last December, the US military conducted what it called a "large-scale strike" targeting Daesh sites in the country, after an attack claimed the lives of two US troops and a civilian linguist in the Palmyra area.
The UN says Daesh still maintains roughly 5-7 thousand militants in Syria and Iraq.
